Indian Pizza - My First Time

This is the one where I make Indian Pizza for the first time, the one where I use curry powder for the first time and the one where my house smells like it for 2 days.

I know, we live a very sheltered life here in OK. I don't know of a single Indian restaurant in the whole state. Then again, I have never searched one out. I will be doing that the next time that we head to the big city.

This is also the one where I realize what I have been missing out on this wonderful flavor for my whole life.


Indian Pizza was delicious. Well the one that we got to eat was anyway.

Ingredients:

1 store-bought whole wheat pizza dough, at room temperature (I used pizza crust in a can)
1/4 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 large jalapeno, seeded and chopped
1/4 cup olive oil
Salt and pepper
1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder
1/2 lb ground turkey
1 zucchini, halved length wise, sliced
1/4 large red onion

My additions:

1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow squash


Invert a 13 X 18 baking baking sheet onto the bottom of the oven. Preheat the over to 500 degrees. Oil a second baking sheet and stretch the pizza dough to fit the pan.


In a blender or mini food processor, pulse the cilantro, jalapeno and 2 Tablespoons olive oil until a paste forms; season with salt and pepper.


Spread the paste on pizza dough and sprinkle with cheese.


Other than the missing tomato sauce, this was the part of this recipe I had the hardest time wrapping my head around.,putting the cheese on this first and only time. I kept questioning the recipe...going back to make sure this step was right.


In a medium skillet, heat the remaining olive oil. Add curry powder and cook, stirring for 30 seconds. Add the turkey and season with salt and pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat, until just barely cooked through. Stir in the zucchini and onion. Top the pizza with meat mixture.

This is also the recipe where I show my true colors, in all that time pursuing the recipe for another time that I could use cheese - never once did I read that the toppings should go into the pan with the meat. I layered my pizzas instead. Spreading first the ground turkey, then my toppings.


Place the baking sheet on the preheated baking sheet in the oven and bake until the crust is golden, about 20 minutes.


This is also the recipe where I learned for the 10th time (think cookies) that metal and stoneware do not cook at the same rate.


I was so sad to throw this pizza away - but there was no saving it from my stupidity.


My entire family loved this pizza. Even Miss Maddy who states before every meal that she doesn't like anything. She did however pick off all zucchini and onions off her 5 slices.



All that worry over the cheese and I kid you not...we didn't notice it.

  1. Hi Mellisa, thanks so much for even sharing the part about burning the Indian pizza, your experience is helpful for all of us...like me...who don't know this about pans and ovens, hee hee. Sorry that happened to your first attempt but it was put to good use for the rest of us readers. By the way, this recipe looks delicious, thanks for sharing it. Louisa C
